Rangers Collapse

 Rangers Collapse

The Texas Rangers this season have been one of the better teams in the Major Leagues. The Rangers started off the season with fifty-two wins and thirty-nine losses. They lead their division over the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners by a couple of games. The Rangers finally made it to the all-star break, and it was a nice break, giving our players some days off and rest. After the all-star break, the Rangers have posted a twenty-four and twenty-three record since. What happened to them? Let's take a deep dive into this.

The Rangers were not sellers (trade away some of your better players with big contracts for draft picks or younger players) by any means. The Rangers were buyers and traded for relievers Chris Stratton and Aroldis Chapman and starting pitchers Max Scherzer and Jordan Montgomery. And acquiring Austin Hedges for catching experience. Everyone around the MLB believed the Rangers would be dangerous in the second half of the season.

Since the all-star break, the Rangers have been so mid it is unbelievable. Again, they have a twenty-four and twenty-three record since acquiring all those players. Injuries have plagued this team throughout the season. Jacob deGrom, their ace pitcher, went down at the beginning of the season with Tommy Johns surgery. Then, later in the season, Nathan Eovaldi went down for multiple months with signs of Tommy Johns. The other critical injury the Rangers have faced is losing their all-star third basemen, Josh Jung. A broken thumb sent Jung to the IL for multiple months as well.

I certainly will not be making excuses with this team. They are facing a challenging task this upcoming month. As of yesterday, the Rangers dropped out of the playoff race. The last time they fell out was in April. The Rangers have a demanding remaining schedule with numerous games against division rivals Astros and Mariners, which would be critical for them to make a leap toward the playoffs.

They can definitely make the playoffs for a couple reasons. The first reason is that they are getting some players back from the IL, which will undoubtedly help them. The other reason we will make the playoffs is that the Rangers coach, Bruce Bochy, is a multi-time World Series winner, and his experience will be critical.

I would love to hear from you all. Do you watch MLB? If so, what is your favorite team? As always, leave a comment down below!
